Oh, and I love the book titles Escargot imagines with a snail for a protagonist-my favorite being "Harry Gastropodder and the Chamber of Salads" -) Escargot is just the most adorable character and makes me miss our pet snails (believe me, I never thought I would find real snails cute but they totally are once you get to know them!)Įscargot wants to cook something new, so he’s at the library looking for a French cookbook. That said, it's all done in a fairly light and humorous manner and Escargot's bravery is commendable (even though we bibliophiles might wince a little at the destruction that occurs). I know this would have upset me as a kid but, then, I was vegetarian at heart from a young age. A "little kid" picture book that captures the interest of my oldest scores bonus points with me! -) I will say that I think for some in the target audience, it might feel a little disturbing when Escargot realizes that there is a recipe for cooked snails and professes that he doesn't want to be eaten. I love the interactive element and even my nine-year-old came over to listen as I read it aloud to my youngest and they were both giggling.
